The Spanish Equestrian Federation has been working ardently in establishing a structured junior and young riders' program similar to other European countries. The federation, therefore, has established A and B- teams from which the national teams will be picked.
The Spanish Youth Riders training program has as its goal the "preparation of juniors and young riders for top level competition to obtain international results". Spain aims "to be competitive with nations of a higher level." The federation is mirrorring the "quality standards that are provided in their programs (of other countries)."
The RFHE has set up short-term and long-term goals. It will focus on the best horses and riders it has now by promoting them and investing in their training and education, but it will also scout for rising stars. The federation has created two teams, a pre-selected A-team of confirmed combinations and a developing B-team of rising stars.
Riders selected on any of the teams will get special training to improve their riding as well as get physical and psychological training. They are supported by the national coach at shows.
The eventual teams for the European Junior and Young Riders Championships will be picked from these lists. Qualification criteria include two 65% scores at two CDI's, one of which has to be outside the Iberian peninsula. The riders must have shown a consistent level at shows and clinics and have a positive attitude.
