Holsteiner Breeding News

The Holsteiner licensed breeding stallion Casaretto passed away at age 23 at the end of September. The 1989 born dark bay stallion was approved for all major German stood books and sired numerous, versatile sport horses.

Bred by Kirsten Bornholdt, Casaretto was by the legendary Calypso I out of Winja (by Ladalco x Raimond). He was initially licensed with the Holsteiner society and finished fourth in his stallion performance test in 1992.

He first stood at stud at stallion station Holkenbrink in Westfalia before moving to station Henning in Hohenmocker, Germany, in 2002.

Casaretto sired at least five licensed sons (Cabernet, Cadeau des Dieux, Callas, Catinus, Chaloc) but his offspring convinced more in sport. Cabernet passed away in April 2012 at age 19.

Renowned dressage offspring include the Swedish owner Grand Prix horse Charming Boy (Sofie Lexner) and small tour horses Carlo Calucchi (Svenja Peper) and Capriccio Ravissant (Alessia Ruggieri).

In 2009 Casaretto was proclaimed Elite stallion.
