2015 Brightwells Auction

The 2015 Brightwells December Addington sales have always been well supported, but it was a full house at this year’s event, with well in excess of 700 people poised to bid during the sale. Although trade throughout the evening was a little more difficult, the overall average was up on last year’s sale at £12,463.

The middle market proved to be most exciting, with horses sold to many parts of the UK and to overseas buyers from Switzerland and Portugal.

The dressage and show jumping presentations was streamed live and remained very popular. It continues to enhance Brightwells' ability to reach many new clients. Indeed, the number of new UK and international clients was notable at this sale, with active interest from USA, Canada, Mexico and many parts of Europe.

Top price of the evening was £26,000 for an exceptional State Premium candidate, a 3 year old jumping mare called Greta Garbo by Grey Top. During the evening, three other show jumpers topped at £25,000. Lot 15 Happy Princess, a 3 year old mare by Captain Cooper, who will be pursuing her future career in Switzerland. Lot 46 Hiawatha, a striking Piebald approved stallion by Harmony, was an impulse purchase on the night by a couple who had not intended to buy, but could not resist him! Lastly, lot 49 Hajidin a 3 year old mare by Zirocco Blue was hotly contested for and we look forward to seeing her on the UK jumping circuit.

The top selling Dressage horse went to Lot 30 Goliath De Jeu, a 4-year old gelding by Don Schufro, who is expected to take part in the young horse classes in the spring. The 2-year old stallion Washington (by Wynton) sold for 21,545 euro.

Sarah Johnson, who has recently taken on the responsibility for selecting the majority of horses on offer, commented, “the 2014 December sale was always going to be a hard act to follow, but we are pleased with this year’s sale results. The overall quality of the horses on offer was very good and this resulted in an average price increase on last year. I would like to thank all of our vendors, new and old, for their continued support. It was also wonderful to welcome so many new clients, and we will endeavour to continue this trend”.

We at Brightwells look forward to cataloguing some exciting young horses for you in 2016!
