Oliver Oelrich, German national youth team trainer for dressage, must have been pleased as his teams rode home with two nations cup wins at the 2018 CDIO-PJYR Hagen "Future Champions" competition on Thursday 14 June 2018: in the Young Riders class, (U21) and the Juniors (U18).

The Young Riders women that competed in the Almased Dressage Stadium  - Semmieke Rothenberger (Bad Homburg) with Dissertation, Alexa Westendarp (Wallenhorst) with Four Seasons, and Lia Welschof (Paderborn) with Don Windsor OLD - had the three best rides in the class, meaning they also took first, second, and third places in the individual ranking!

“Riding here with the German team in a year with the World Cup of Football and the World Equestrian Games is just an amazing feeling,” glowed 20-year-old Alexa Westendarp. “Of course it is incredible to stand at the top of the podium with the German team!”

Second place in the Nations Cup went to Denmark, ahead of the team from Belgium.

The Juniors also made Oelrich very happy. The German team won ahead of Russia and Denmark. Valentina Pistner (Bad Homburg) with Flamboyant OLD offered the highest rated round ahead of Anna Guseynova (RUS) with Lauda. Romie Allard (Dormagen) with Summer Rose and Linda Erbe (Krefeld) with DSP Fierro followed, tying for third place with the same score, which made the black-red-gold win complete.

As is tradition at Future Champions, Thursday is welcome night. All the nations competing were welcomed into the stadium by host Ullrich Kasselmann:

“It is an honor to great 600 riders and 800 horses from 22 countries here in Hagen a.T.W. Every year I am impressed by the talent and hard work shown by these young equestrian athletes.” Said Kasselmann. “It brings me great joy to see young equestrians representing their countries in team competitions. Particularly as we look to the World Equestrian Games in Tryon this year. I hope to one day see all of these familiar faces representing their countries there as well!”

On Friday there will be Nations Cups for Pony Riders and Children on the dressage program.
