German youth team routinier Alexa Westendarp has made a flawless transition to Grand Prix level and won the 2019 Piaff Forderpreis selection trial for Under 25 Grand Prix riders in Warendorf on 1 - 3 February 2019.

Thirty-four combinations were originally listed to go to the DOKR headquarters in Warendorf for a training seminar, followed by a Grand Prix competition test, in which twenty-nine combinations competed. The sixteen highest scoring riders in the test have been invited to compete on the 2019 Piaff Forderpreis circuit, the German Under 25 show series, this spring and summer.

The training seminar covers three educational days of theory and practice. The invited pairs get training sessions with their home trainer and the German Under 25 team trainer, Sebastian Heinze. World champion Isabell Werth talked about show management, season planning and show preparation. On Sunday the important qualifier takes place in which the riders perform the Short Grand Prix test, which gets videos and commented on by German Grand Prix team trainer Monica Theodorescu.

"We saw intereting, but also very young combinations with good perspectives," Heinze commented. "This is especially very helpful for me as trainer, to see the riders three days after each other and to get a better picture of them."

The sixteen highest scoring combinations in the short grand prix test qualified for the show circuit. The 21-year old Alexa Westendarp and her 12-year old Hanoverian gelding Der Prinz (by Diamond Hit) were the top scorers with 71.43%. She was the only rider to score above 70%.

Lena Charlott Walterscheidt and Solist and Nina Kudernak on Dione made up the top three with 69.961% and 69.380%.
