The well known Westfalian licensed pony breeding stallion Donnerwetter passed away unexpectedly at age 27.

Donnerwetter was born in 1991 and bred by renowned dressage trainer Johann Hinnemann.

The stallion proved his versatility and competed in dressage, show jumping and driving. Although he did very few shows (just 6 events in his life), he competed until 2014 when he was 23 years old.

Donnerwetter made his mark as a breeding stallion. He was licensed at the 1994 Westfalian Pony Licensing and did his 30-day performance test in Neustadt/Dosse in October 1995, scoring 116.39 points and finishing fifth out of 20 participating stallion.

He sired twelve licensed sons, amongst them Davidoff, De Vito, Donnerblitz, Donnertraum, Delmonte, Golden Dime and HET Don't Forget Me. His most famous offspring in sport is the international FEI dressage ponies  Donnertraum (Florine Kienbaum, Celine Jeurissen, Greta Busacker) and Dollar Girl (Kaylee Gouda, Esta Smalle), the 2018 Bundeschampion Diamond Touch (Lara Stoll), and the 2018 French Young Pony Champion Hesselteich's Domino.

Owner Ulrike Hemschenherm told Equitaris that Donnerwetter was doing fine until the day he died. "At 7 'o clock he had eaten his hay cubes and shortly after 8 he peacefully lay dead in his stall. It must have happened very suddenly."

Donnerwetter would turn 28 in the spring.
