Don Johnson and Desperados were the winners of the 2011 Otto Lorke Prize which is given annually to the most successful upcoming Grand Prix horse in Germany up to the age of 10. The award is handed to the rider, trainer and owner of the winning horse at the CDI Stuttgart.
In memory of the renowned rider and trainer Otto Lorke (1879-1957) this prize was given in the past to such horses as Rembrandt, Gigolo, Farbenfroh, Rusty and Satchmo.
The 10-year old Hanoverian licensed stallion Desperados (by De Niro x Wolkenstein II) is bred by Herbert Schutt and owned by Gestut Sprehe. Rider Kristina Sprehe won the 2011 Piaff Forderpreis Finals with him. The horse was trained to Grand Prix by Falk Rosenbauer, who won the 2010 Hamburg Dressage Derby with him. Sprehe and Desperados are now being trained by Jurgen Koschel.
The 9-year old Hanoverian gelding Don Johnson (by Don Frederico x Warkant) is bred by Ulrike Meyer and owned by Madeleine Winter-Schulze. Under Isabell Werth the cheeky bay gelding has had a succesful debut season at Grand Prix level and finished second in the Stuttgart Grand Prix and third in the Kur.
The Otto Lorke Prize, awarded by the Liselott Schindling Foundation, entails a 1,500 euro check and 1,000 kilo of oats for the horse provided by the Höveler company.
