What's Happening in the Dressage World?

We received the sad news today that American dressage rider Jane Lawson passed away in a tragic riding accident. Lawson, who was living and training in England, fell off her horse when it got caught in the mounting block and flipped. Lawson severely injured her head and deceased soon after. Jane Elizabeth Lawson competed at the Sunshine Tour CDI this year aboard Giorgio S, Nicky Barrett's former Grand Prix horse with whom Barrett won the British National Dressage Title. Jane will be greatly missed.

The Celle State Stud director Dr Burkhard Bade had a severe car accident on his way from Stade to his home. Dr. Bade broke both arms and several ribs. He is currently in the hospital. Unfortunately, this means that Dr. Bade will not be present at the upcoming Hanoverian Stallion Licensing. We wish him a swift recovery.

Fortunately, there is some good news too. British Grand Prix rider Nicola McGivern is back in the saddle. McGivern suffered from an extreme case labyrinthitus, which basically meant that she lost balance and had to learn to rebalance herself again. McGivern stayed in bed for 10 weeks, but now she is cured and feels fit and healthy. "Walero has had a great holiday, but I am so happy to be back in the saddle, although it seems that all of my breeches have shrunk in the wash whilst I was away," McGivern told Eurodressage.
