Brazilian Grand Prix rider Pedro Tavares de Almeida has lost his home bred Grand Prix horse Famous do Vouga. The 13-year old succumbed on Monday 24 April 2023 to complications caused by pneumonia.

Famous do Vouga is a Brazilian bred Lusitano by Riopele out of Vindima Vouga (by Famoso x Uranio). He is bred by Manuel Tavares de Almeida.

Two Years at Grand Prix

The grey stallion was bred and born at the family's stud farm, Rocas do Vouga, in Brazil in 200, but only made the international spotlight in 2021 at age 11.

Under Pedro Tavares, Famous do Vouga made his international Grand Prix debut at the CDI Abrantes in Portugal, where they scored 67.587% in the Grand Prix. They went on to the CDI Cascais and Le Mans and were named reserves for the Brazilian individual spot at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In 2022 the pair competed at the CDI's in Jerez, Beloura, Camarma de Estruelas, and Segovia.

Lung Infection

The pair was nominated on the Brazilian team for the 2022 World Championships in Herning, but at the start of August they withdrawn because Famous was not fit to compete. This left Brazil without a team as they had not appointed a travelling reserve.

At the time the owner communicated that Famous suffered from travel sickness and had spent 10 days in an equine clinic in Düsseldorf, Germany, for treatment of a lung infection.

The owner communicated on social media that after the lung infection, Famous "recovered, but unfortunately he had a new serious clinical situation, which brought him to his death. Thank you, Famous, for everything you did and for representing us in such a beautiful way."
