The 5-year old Escamillo and the 6-year old Soliere became the winners of the Bundeschampionate qualification classes held at the Late Entry national dressage show at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen on 3 July 2020.
Escamillo Back on Song
Life with horses is a roller coaster. Only three days ago, Helen Langehanenberg had to retire Kimberly Davies' licensed stallion Escamillo (by Escolar x Rohdiamant) from the indoor Bundeschampionate qualifier in Riesenbeck, because the stallion was resisting in the warm up and test. Today at the outdoor qualifier in Hagen, Escamillo was on best behaviour and won the 5-year old L-level dressage test with the highest score achieved by any pair this season so far: 9.5 points. The judges were generous and the stallion got 8 for walk, 10 for trot and canter, 9.5 for submission and 10 for general impression.
The runner-up in the big 5-year old class, that counted 22 pairs, was Hof Kasselmann's Nicole Wego aboaurd Isabelle Bergmann's Westfalian mare Special Diva (by Sezuan x Sir Donnerhall). The mare earned 8 for walk, 9 for trot and canter, 8 for submission and 9 for general impression to finish on 8.6 points.
Nicola Wego and Special DivaLars Schulze Sutthoff and Kirsten Niermann's Hanoverian mare For Fiesta (by Foundation x Sir Donnerhall) were third with 8.2 points. This mare scored 7 for walk, 9.5 for trot, 8 for canter and submission and 8.5 for general impression.
No less than 9 combinations achieved the Bundeschampionate qualification score of 8.0 or more in the L-level test. The score sheets did not mention the judges, but the schedule listed that Westendarp, Lammers, von Platen, and Lorenz were assigned to judge this test.
Soliere Wins
The 6-year old division was considerably smaller with 10 pairs competing in the M-level dressage horse test. The class was won by Svenja Kämper-Meyer aboard Nils Borgert's Westfalian mare Soliere (by San Amour x Donnerschlag). The dark bay mare got 8 for walk, 8.5 for trot and canter, 8 for submission and 8.5 for general impression to finish on a winning total of 8.3 points. Lukas Fischer and Kerstin Klieber's Gentleman's Style (by Grey Flanell x Sir Donnerhall) have been going full blast with starts in Verden (24 June) in Zeven (27 July) to earn that Bundeschampionate ticket, but third time in Hagen in ten days was a charm. The pair scored a total of 8.2 after earning 8 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 8 for canter and submission and 8.5 for general impression. Evelyn Eger and Hof Kasselmann's Oldenburg gelding Fado (by Fairytale x Sir Donnerhall) were third with 8.1. The black gelding received 7.5 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 8 for canter and submission and 8.5 for general impression.
Lars Schulze Sutthoff on For FiestaThe same group of 4 judges (Westendarp, Lammers, von Platen, and Lorenz) were assigned to judge the 6-year old class. Three judges officiate per class.
