German Olympic gold team medallist Hubertus Schmidt has been honored as "Riding Master" at the Turnier der Sieger end September 2004. The title Riding Master (Reitmeister) is bestowed upon
"an exceptional professional rider and trainer who has produced outstanding results in the show ring, showed excellent results as trainer of top dressage riders and horses and has proven a remarkable involvement in the equestrian sport."
The 44-year old Hubertus Schmidt is the 25th recipient of the title of Riding Master. Schmidt won team gold at the 2004 Olympic Games and placed fifth individually aboard the Hanoverian mare Wansuela Suerte. Over the years, Schmidt has trained more than 20 horses up to Grand Prix level: Tiamo Trocadero, Axel, Bonaparte, Hermes, Extream, Aquarell, My Fair Lady, Argentile Gullit, Goubergh's Ideaal, Ceurtti, Ramasan, Fiona Kildebo, Barclay II, Angard, Aramis, Galant du Serein, Le Delon, No Limit, Pretender, Alcatraz and Motown are included in that list. Furthermore, Schmidt won the title of German Professional Dressage Rider Champion five times.
