Gestut Vorwerk has finally hired a second bereiter for riding, training and competing the famous Vorwerk stallion. The 25-year old Swedish Johanna Bergstrom has taken the position of Bereiter which has been open since the departure of Lisa Wilcox
in January 2005. For five months, Vorwerk was without a top rider and the green Tanja Lammers did her best filling up the void Wilcox left.
Johanna Bergstrom worked for Mr Winkelhues in Bonn, Germany, from 2000 till 2004 and competed in Germany up to M level (fourth level). In 2004, Bergstrom worked at Jan Brink's Tullstorp stable in Sweden.
"Tanja and Johanna will be the two riders who will take care of the training of the stallions and the breaking of the young horses," Vorwerk said. "We will help both riders in their job as much as possible and hope that we can work together for a long time."
FEI riders Ingrid Klimke and Leonie Bramall showed the top Vorwerk stallions (Relevant, Royal Diamond, Jazz Time) at the stallion shows in Germany this winter. It is surprising that Vorwerk has not chosen to hire a confirmed dressage rider to continue the career of these FEI horses and instead has chosen to hand them over to inexperienced, yet talented young dressage riders who still have to go the whole nine yards. On the other hand, it is refreshing that a leading stud farm like Vorwerk is given upcoming dressage riders to chance to prove themselves in the ring aboard their lovely stallions.
