On Sunday, July 9th 2006, German professional dressage rider Uwe Schwanz won the gold medal in the Upper Bavarian Dressage Championships with a near-perfect ride on Victoria Max-Theurer’s Oldenburg Stallion Reve d’Amour.
Schwanz was in the lead throughout the four day show, which was held at Ulrich Rasch’s Hofgut Allerer, July 7- 9, 2006.
Schwanz had won every qualification round, plus the preliminary qualifier, with the same horse. This is the third gold medal for Schwanz, who already holds two gold medals as German National Champion of Professional Riders.
„This medal is a great achievement for Reve d’Amour,” Schwanz said at the press conference after the medals ceremony. “He had never been in a Intermediaire before and so I did not know what to expect. I was especially concerned about how he would handle the difficult flying changes at every other stride, considering it was his first time. But I needn’t have worried. On the contrary: the closer the changes followed each other, the more Reve d’Amour rose to the challenge. He just went through them as though he had never done anything else in his life. I really noticed how the horse fought along with me all the way, as though he knew exactly what was at stake.”
Answering the question of a television reporter about his further plans for Reve d’Amour, the new Upper Bavarian Dressage Champion replied: “The Nurnberg Burgpokal Qualification is next on our list for now, and then, in the off-season, Reve will be trained to Grand Prix level during the winter months.”
With this victory in the Championships, Uwe Schwanz took over from the 2005 Upper Bavarian Champion Ralf Kornprobst who came 3rd with Escape Sun. The Silver Medal went to Udo Bosch, riding Marcello. Schwanz is also the current Bronze medallist in the Bavarian Dressage Championships (2005), which will be held again next weekend (July 14-16th 2006) at Munich-Riem. In total, Schwanz now holds 8 medals, 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze.
