During a special honorary celebration, the Danish owned Hanoverian Grand Prix horse Blue Hors Cavan was retired from competition at the 2007 Danish Warmblood Stallion Licensing in Herning on March 10, 2007.

Flowers and praise were offered to owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and the Blue Hors Stud manager Esben Møller at the show.

"This afternoon, we are saying goodbye to a big athlete, a dressage star who will now be retired," said Jan Pedersen, the president of the Danish warmblood society. "His big career started here in Herning in 1993 and we want to end it, of course, in the same place. There are only 89 registered offspring of Blue Hors Cavan in Denmark, but albeit he is one of the best 5 breeding stallions in the country and produced the gold medal mare Lara Stensvang, who became Mare of the Year. Lara Stesvang was reserve champion in the 2004 Young Horse Championships and the next year, the Blue Horse Cavan offspring Consequent became champion."

Blue Hors Cavan (by Cavalier x Damnatz) is owned by Blue Hors Stud in Randbøl, Denmark, and made his fame as an international Grand prix horse under Lars Petersen and and Andreas Helgstrand. He claimed 49 victories at the Grand Prix level and became four time Danish Dressage Champion. He won 8 World Cup Qualifiers and placed second in the 2002 World Cup Finals.

"I'm very thankful to have had the opportunity to ride such a world class horse as Blue Hors Cavan. I have learnt so unbelievably much on him," Andreas Helgstrand said in conclusion.

Blue Horse Cavan was purchased at the 1992 Verden Stallion Licensing for Hanoverians horses. He became the pillar of the Danish team which won team bronze at the 1999 European Championships in Arnheim. Bred by F.W. Rusch from Belum, Germany, Cavan switched owners after the approval in Verden and moved to Denmark. Blue Hors Cavan was gelded following a testicular hernia in 2000.
