Toronto, ON native Victoria Winter and Proton won the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle during the  CDI3* Dressage@Blainville held at the Blainville Equestrian Park in Blainville, QC, June 18-20, 2010.

Riding Cindy Ishoy’s 16-year-old Baden-Wurttemburger gelding sired by Patriarch, Winter earned a score of 66.681% for the win, with three of the FEI judges rewarding her with scores of over 68%. The pair also won the Grand Prix Freestyle earning a personal best score of 73.400%.

“I was thrilled with Proton's performances in Blainville. Each time we compete I feel us coming together more as a team. I was especially pleased with our personal best score of 73.400% in the Freestyle. Our Grand Prix was also on track to be a personal best score but unfortunately a difference in marks of almost 7% from one judge significantly impacted the final score,” said Winter. “We have now finished our qualifying process for the World Equestrian Games and currently stand in fourth position for the team. We now must sit and watch the rest of the Canadian riders in Europe to see if we can hold on to our spot.”

Canadian Olympian Jacqueline Brooks of Mount Albert, ON, and her 2008 Olympic mount Gran Gesto (Grannox x Goldstern) finished fourth in the Grand Prix with a score of  65.277%. 

In the Grand Prix Freestyle, Brooks and Gran Gesto scored 71.900% for third place, while Jaimey Irwin, of Stouffville, ON finished in fourth, with 69.850% riding Dover, his 13–year-old Oldenburg gelding (Deniro x Castro). Ute Busse of Breslau, ON, and Lindor’s Finest (by Eastern Ruler), a 13-year-old Dutch-bred gelding owned by Busse and Sylvia Carlton earned 66.200% for fifth place. Lakeside, NB native Denielle Gallagher-Legriffon, and Abrikos, her 19-year-old Russian Warmblood stallion, posted a sixth place finish in the Freestyle with 65.500%. Simone Williams of Navan, ON and Wunder Ein, a 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding (Wolkenstein x Matt), owned by Williams and her parents, Robert and Marg, earned 65.150% in the Freestyle for seventh.

In the Advanced division, Julie Watchorn of Schomberg, ON won the Intermediaire I Freestyle with a score of 68.750% riding her 17-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare Quintesse (Latano x Fernando). Alan Young of Terra Cotta, ON finished in second place with Nancy MacLachlan’s Stella (Espiritu x Pilot), a 13-year-old Canadian Sport Horse mare, with 67.667%. Annaliese Farber of Peterborough, ON and Sandro’s Heir (Sandro Hit x Castro), an eight-year-old Oldenberg stallion she co-owns with John Grills, finished in third with 66.333%. Brooks and Everybody's Darling (Dimension x Rubinstein I), an eight-year-old Oldenburg mare owned by Tara Marshall-Wickett, placed fourth with 65.667%. Voldemort (Rasputin x Gribaldi), an eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned and ridden by Andrea Bingham, rounded out the top five with a score of 65.417%.

Nancy MacLachlan, a Pan American Medalist and World Cup representative, won the Intermediaire I with Deniros Tyme, a 12–year-old Oldenburg gelding (x Deniro) owned by Julia Fogel, earning a score of 70.000%. Tom Dvorak of Orangeville, ON placed second earning 69.561% with Viva’s Salieri W (x Viva Voltaire), a nine-year-old Canadian-bred Hanoverian owned by Augustine and Christine Walch. Dvorak and Freixenet, Marilyn Dietrich’s eight-year-old Westphalian gelding sired by Florestan, earned 66.754% for third. Brooks and Everybody's Darling finished fourth with 66.404%, while Farber and Sandro’s Heir placed fifth with 66.228%.

Dvorak won the Prix St. Georges test with 70.351% riding Viva’s Salieri W and took second with Freixenet scoring 67.105%. Lynne Joly of Sherbrooke, QC, and her nine-year-old Trakehner stallion Huno (Magritte x Ravel), earned 66.491% for third. Brooks and Everybody's Darling finished fourth with 66.140%, and Farber and Sandro’s Heir placed fifth with 65.000%.

In the FEI Five Year Old division, Olympian Gina Smith of Brockville, ON and Royal Flush (a Hanoverian owned by Michele Levesque) won both classes, scoring 77.200% in the Preliminary test, and 83.400% in the Final test. Joly and Sotheby’s Dream, an Oldenburg owned by Fondation Equestre Rainville, were second in the Preliminary test with 76.400% and third in the Final test with 73.800% Neil McIntosh of Montreal, QC and Sandy, a Westphalian mare owned by Claude Dagenais, were third in the Preliminary with 73.800% and second in the Final with a score of 75.600%. Fourth place in the Preliminary test and tied for fourth place in the Final, both times with a score of 73.400%, was awarded to Maya Markowski of St. Clements, ON and Diego, a Hanoverian owned by Peter Trainor. Louise Palmer of Vankleek Hill, ON and Savanna, a Hanoverian owned by South Lane Farm, were fifth in the Preliminary Test with 71.600% and sixth place in the Final with 73.000%. Susan Dutt-Roth riding Wanda Jamieson’s Hanoverian Bakari were tied for sixth in the Preliminary test with 70.200% and tied for fourth in the final with 73.400. Harper Mackenzie of Millgrove, ON rode Ludwig, Ruth Roy’s Hanoverian gelding, to a sixth place tie in the Preliminary test with 70.200% and placed seventh in the Final with 66.400%.

2007 Pan American Silver Medalist Diane Creech of Caistor Centre, ON, won both FEI Six year old tests with Hallmark, a Hanoverian gelding owned by her sponsor Douglas Leatherdale.  The pair earned 78.200% in the Preliminary test and 85.000% in the Final. Williams and her Hanoverian Farley finished second in the Preliminary test with 72.000% and third in the Final with 72.600%. Andrea Bresee of Uxbridge, ON, was third in the Preliminary test with Pericles, earning 71.800%.  She then earned 74.200% for second place in the Final with the Hanoverian gelding owned by Loretta Flynn. Fourth in both classes with 66.000% and 70.200% respectively, was Karen Davis of Devlin, ON, and Morris, a Friesian gelding owned by Angela Hellema.  

Showcasing the talented youth in the Canadian dressage scene the Young Rider, Junior, and Pony divisions are always popular each year. Amy Jager of Waterloo, ON, rode Key West, Ruth Demandt’s 10-year-old Trakehner gelding sired by Charly Chaplin, to victory in all of the FEI Young Rider tests scoring 66.404% in the team test, 68.772% in the Individual test and 70.250% in the Freestyle. Jaimie Holland of Caledon, ON and her long-time partner Fleurina, a 12-year-old Westphalian mare by Florestan, was second in Young Rider Team test with 66.404%, which was the same score earned by Jager, but the tie was broken by artistic marks. Holland and Fleurina were also second in the Individual test with 65.000% and in the Freestyle with 69.500%. Third place in the Team test (65.614%) and Freestyle (66.500%) was awarded to Anne-Mylaine Messier riding her horse Marzipan, a 14-year-old Canadian Hanoverian.

Sarah Loewen of Winnipeg, MB and Ricardo, her 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, were first place in the FEI Junior Team test, scoring 66.216%. The pair also placed second in the Junior Individual test. Sarah Pfaff of Harrow, ON earned first place in the Junior Freestyle with Pamaika, a Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Jill Pfaff, with a score of 68.333%.  Kerry Houlahan of Smith Falls, ON was second with Fresco, Maple Lane Equestrian Trailers’ 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding, scoring 65.5000%. 

In the FEI Pony tests, Tanya Strasser-Shostak of St. Adele, QC won the Team test riding her pony Nemo Tyme, while Nicole Babich-Morin of Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC was victorious the individual test (65.439%) aboard her pony Tristan.

The judging panel for CDI 3* Blainville included the following FEI 5* judges: Stephen Clarke (GBR); Elizabeth McMullen (CAN). The FEI 4* judges attending were Marian Cunningham (PER), Lorraine MacDonald (CAN), Jane Weatherwax (USA) and Lisette Vega De Purcell (DOM). Charlotte Bredahl (USA), an FEI 3* judge, was also in attendance.

World Equestrian Games

The next CDI in Canada is the Edmonton Gold Rush CDI3*, July 15 – 19, 2010, in Edmonton, AB where WEG-declared riders have yet another chance to earn their qualifying scores.
