Sadly, it's been a week of colic attacks. In the United States two internationally well known Grand Prix horses were operated on for colic: Leslie Morse's Kingston and Melissa Taylor's Schumacker.
Only months after Leslie Morse had to pull her Grand Prix horse Tip Top through colic surgery, her 18-year old KWPN licensed stallion Kingston also suffered from a colic attack and had to be operated on. The dark bay stallion by Voltaire is doing fine. "Thankfully he is doing very well today," Morse wrote. "God I love him."
While coaching her student Carolien Roffman on Bon Chance to the national title in the 2010 U.S. Young Horse Championships for 5-year olds, Taylor's Grand Prix horse Schumacker Solyst had a colic attack and was transported to the equine Clinic. The 16-year old bay Danish warmblood gelding (by Schwadroneur x Ragtime) was operated on is currently recovering well. "He had a small intestine impaction, but there was no cutting of any intestines," Taylor explained. "This means 60 days of hand walk, but that's fine with me!"
"It is amazing how special our boys are. How strong they are and how much they love there life," Morse said about Kingston and Schumacher's colic attacks. "They keep fighting for it. We are lucky to have them."
