Oldenburg colt First Impression and filly Simone became the Oldenburg bred dressage champion foals of 2011 in the United States. The overall champions were proclaied at the end of the year after all Oldenburg foal inspections in the U.S. concluded.
North American OHBS Director Holly Simensen reports, "The quality of the top foals was absolutely outstanding in 2011. So much so there was a very difficult decision to make, with much thought and deliberation. Because the colts were so special this year in the dressage category we decided that we would make one champion and 3 reserve champions."
The Champion Colt was First Impression (by Fürstenball out of Livadia). The foal, bred by renowned judge, dressage rider and breeder Hilda Gurney, is out of Elite Trakehner mare Livadia (by Impressionist x Condus).
"He had everything you could dream for, and therefore was named the Champion Dressage Colt," said Simensen. "Beautiful top line, gorgeous head, correct in his legs and clear in his mind. Gaits could be likened to a 4 legged version of Barishnikov, light, airy and powerful."
Colt Shameless (by Stedinger) became the reserve champion, followed by Sun King (by Sir Gregory) and Redhawk's De Haviland (by Diamond Hit). The reserve champions "were simply and utterly extraordinary," Simensen added.
The Champion filly Simone (by Sandro Hit x Florestan x Donnerhall) was "simply exquisite". The black filly is bred by Anita Nardine of Hidden Springs Ranch in California. Oak Hill Ranch's Pasadena (by Don Caruso) was named reserve champion filly. She descends out of a Danish warmblood damline.
