The Hanoverian licensed breeding stallion and Grand Prix horsr Baroncelli has been retired from riding and competition. The 15-year old dark bay gelding (by Bergamon x Matcho AA x Pik König) is bred by Ingo Pape, owned by Harmony Sport horses and was competed by American Susanne Hassler.
Baroncelli had a long and highly decorated career in both breeding and sport. He earned honorable distinction in every possible category as a young stallion and as he developed through the levels to his Grand Prix career. Baroncelli was named Champion of his VhW licensing and Champion of his performance testing.
Under Susan Pape, Baroncelli finished second at the 2003 Bundeschampionate and placed 4th in the World Championships for Young Horses as a 5- and 6-year old. He also competed in the finals of the Nürnberger BurgPokal (Germany's Developing Horse Championships). He developed on to become a lovely Grand Prix horse and in late 2011 came to the US, giving Susanne Hassler two very special, memorable years in the Grand Prix arena.
Baroncelli gave Susanne her first experiences competing in the Grand Prix Freestyle "Saturday night under the lights" at Dressage at Devon. The pair enjoyed many wins at Grand Prix and were proud to earn Champion and Reserve Championship titles at the 2011 and '12 BLM's and two USDF Region One Reserve Championship titles.
"Wonderful "Mr. B" is a gentleman through and through," said Susanne Hassler. "His character is deep and honest, his desire to please endless. He is a stallion with enormous heart and so deserving of a happy, healthy retirement. While "Berti" is fit and well in body and mind, a heart condition with which he has performed for years took a sudden turn for the worse in recent months. We are grateful to our wonderful partners for choosing to give him the retirement he deserves. Each day with Berti-Boy has been a gift and we now dedicate our time to caring for him as he enjoys a happy retirement in the afterglow of a great career."
