The 4-year old Oldenburg licensed stallion Sommelier became the price highlight of the 2013 Klosterhof Medingen auction in Bad Bevesen, Germany on 28 September 2013. The auction, which offered a small lot of sport horses and a bigger collection of foals, achieved outstanding knock-down prices this year.
Seventeen riding horses and twenty-nine foals were auctioned at this event. They achieved a strong average price of 72,700 euro for the sport horses and 16,200 euro for the foals. The top seller of the sport horses was the 4-year old licensed stallion Sommelier (by San Amour x Diamond Hit) which sold to Hamburg dressage rider Christina Lebens for 230,000 euro.
The second most expensive youngster was the 4-year old chestnut Hanoverian Duke of Cornwall (by Don Henrico x De Niro), which sold to Hamburg for 180,000 euro. Canadian clients acquired the 10-year old Oldenburg bred Royal Cardinal (by Rubin Royal x Feinbrand) for 150,000 euro. The 4-year old Hanoverian Forrest Gump (by Fidertanz x De Niro) achieved a knock down price of 110,000 euro and came into South African ownership.
The foals achieved staggering prices at this auction with the price highlight being the dark bay Oldenburg bred colt Herbsttänzer (by Herbstkönig x De Niro), selling for 65,000 euro to The Netherlands. Hergen Schweers' bay colt Dream of Capri (by De Niro x Dimaggio) sold for 60,000 euro to local clients. The Belgian owned Finest Selection (by Fidertanz x De Niro) moves for 55,000 euro to Rhineland based clients and Zuchthof Up 'n Sande's bay Hanoverian branded Fame (by Fidertanz x Le Primeur) will go to Hamburg for 35,000 euro.
