Last week Florero de Jeu, bred by KWPN Breeder of the Year 2013 Emmy de Jeu, started his long journey to New Zealand, beginning quarantine in the UK. The 3-year old dark bay gelding is bought by Bridgitt Barclay Horses Ltd, who together with her partner Andy Edwards wants to start promoting KWPN in New Zealand.
Florero de Jeu (by Don Schufro out of Tango de Jeu (Contango x Rubinstein) will be the flagship of Bridgitt Barclay Horses Ltd as a dressage horse and next year their broodmares will follow.
"We absolutely fell in love with Holland and Emmy’s horses," said Bridgitt. "As soon as Andy and I saw Florero we knew he had to come home with us, along with two of Emmy’s stunning mares. Fiesta de Jeu who recently earned her Ster Prok Predicate is in foal to Negro and she will foal in Holland next year. She will then come out to New Zealand in foal again to a stallion that will be exciting to have in NZ. We don’t know which one yet."
Barclay has invested further in De Jeu's mare band. "We also have Fiora de Jeu," said Barclay. "She’s currently carrying Sisther de Jeu’s foal but will come out in foal to NZ next year as well. Fiora is out of the Kebandina line and is the sweetest mare."
Once Florero arrives into New Zealand, he will go to CoupeCubitt Sport Horses in Auckland for a settling in period and light training while he adjusts to his new life. Following this he will begin his formal dressage training and competing with Coralie Williams of Williams Equestrian.
"This is a wonderful start of a new and exciting venture of Bridgitt and Andy’s and I hope it will bring lots of new fans of KWPN down under," Emmy de Jeu commented.
Emmy will be heading to New Zealand in March 2014 to attend the Horse of the Year show in Hastings, one of the biggest equestrian shows in the southern hemisphere. Together, Emmy and Bridgitt would like to rally many New Zealand breeders to join them and KWPN in improving and strengthening dressage horse breeding in New Zealand.
