A huge field of international riders from all over Europe, even including a few Australians, gave it their all at the wonderful Future Champions international youth riders competition at Hof Kasselmann, Germany, on 12 - 15 June 2014. With the team selections for the 2014 European Junior and Young Riders Championships coming to a close, the CDIO-JYR Hagen was one of the last events to make them stand out in front of the selectors.
For the German youth riders, Hagen was in fact the final selection event and with team trainer Hans Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen present at the show to assess the team hopefuls, the stakes were high. The Junior CDIO tour was won by Danish Victoria Vallentin on her new ride Geisha (by Gribaldi x Weltmeister) leading the Danish team to an unprecedented victory in the Nations' Cup ahead of Germany and and The Netherlands. In the CDI-J tour, Jessica Krieg and her second horse Revers Side, owned by her trainer Stefanie Meyer-Biss, won the team and individual test, but Vallentin again moved in front in the Kur on Zaragossa, a Dutch bred San Remo x Democraat offspring previously ridden by Robin Beekink.
In the Young Riders division, Sönke Rothenberger reigned supreme on his young 7-year old Dutch warmblood gelding Cosmo (by Van Gogh x Landjonker) claiming victory in all three classes and leading a very strong German team to first place in the Nations' Cup. In the CDI-YR tour Lisa Maria Klossinger had to prove her worth if she wanted to get on board of the German team for Arezzo and Ulla Salzgeber's student succeeded in the task. On her bright bay gelding Daktari (by Donautanz x Carpaccio) she won all three rounds with big seventy percentage scores.
