Wednesday 30 July 2014 saw the first of the international competitions get underway at the 2014 European Championships for Ponies in Millstreet, Ireland. Riders from fourteen countries took to the dressage arena for the first part of the Team competition.

As the class unfolded it became obvious that Germany, Great Britain, The Netherlands and Denmark were strong contenders for the team medals, with Germany’s Lea Luise Nehls riding De Long moving into first place on a score of 73.769%. Great Britain’s Alexandra Hellings and Der Kleine Lord were just decimals behind in second place on a score of 73.564%, and Germany’s Nadine Krause slotted into third place with Danilo 80 on a score of 73.154%.

However, this is only the half-way point in the team competition and with the best three scores to count for each team the outcome is still very unsure. From the home team’s point of view Alana Cazabon Sullivan was best of the Irish and slotted into 18th place on Schermeer ‘s Hof Arendsoog.

The second part of the Team competition is scheduled to get underway on Thursday morning at 9.00hrs with the presentation sof medals expected around 13.00hrs.
