Great Britain's team silver and individual test bronze medal winning pony Der Kleine Lord has been sold to the Owen family and will be the future FEI pony of 11-year old Gemma Owen.
Originally purchased by Clare Williams as a 3-year old from the Van der Loft family in The Netherlands, the now 8-year old Der Kleine Lord is a dark bay German Riding pony by Der Feine Lord. "Lordy" was first produced by British junior rider Erin Williams, at the time a British pony team member herself with Dynasty, and the pair won the SPSS British Young Dressage Pony Championships when the gelding was 4.
The ride on Der Kleine Lord was given to Alexandra Hellings in 2013 and she properly started his competition career. She has continued his education over the past 18 months to make him into a top international dressage pony. The pair was a member of the British team at the 2014 European Pony Championships in Millstreet, Ireland, two weeks ago, where they won team silver and individual test bronze.
Retired British soccer legend Michael Owen and has wife Louise acquired Der Kleine Lord for their 11-year old daughter Gemma Rose.
"It was all agreed earlier this year with the condition that Alex retained the ride until after the Europeans," Clare Williams told Eurodressage. "There has been a lot of interest in him so it's great that he will be staying in the UK. Gemma is already competing at dressage with her former FEI schoolmasters Daphne and Don Joshi."
Gemma Owen is trained by Alexandra and Erin's coach Sonia Webster-Baines.
