The 4-year old All At Once, the 5-year old El Capone and the 6-year old Desperado were the winners of the first leg of the 2014-2015 KWPN Stallion Competition held at the KWPN headquarters in Ermelo, The Netherlands, on Wednesday 26 November 2014. The first qualifier was judged by Toine Hoefs, Jeroen Hulsman and Ton de Kok.
The L-level (Dutch L-level = German A-level) division for 4-year olds was well attended with no less than 14 combinations competing. Vai Bruntink and the Westfalian licensed All At Once (by Ampere x Gribaldi x Jazz) scored the highest marks of 88 points in this division. All At Once is owned by Team Nijhof and Eugene Reesink and was first licensed in Westfalen. The black stallion is now seeking approval with the KWPN studbook. The black excelled with his trot work, but the contact with the bit could be more consistent. The duo referred Theo Hanzon on the KWPN bred Fallantijn (by Vivaldi x Cabochon) to a second place with 85 points.
In the M-level division (Dutch M-level = German L-level) last year's stallion competition winners Marieke van der Putten and El Capone (by UB40 x 00 Seven) proved form and won their class with a whopping 91.5 points. The talented black stallion scored with his basic gaits, earning 9.5 for the walk. Emmelie Scholtens and Estoril (by Zhivago x Gribaldi) landed second place in a distance with 86 points.
The judges put royal scores on the board in the Z-level division for 6 and 7-year olds. Emmelie Scholtens and the black Desperado (by Vivaldi x Havidoff) struggled with the flying changes but scored 90.5 points in total, earning big nines for his three basic gaits.
Madeleine Witte and the 7-year old Charmeur are making their mandatory appearance in the KWPN Stallion Competition as the chestnut stallion has not yet completed its two obligatory years on the circuit (he won the 2013 KWPN Stallion Competition under Scholtens). In Ermelo, Witte and Charmeur scored 85.5 points. The stallion was slightly tense at the beginning of the test but improved during the ride. Witte tied in second place with Gerdine Maree on Dark Pleasure (by Ufo x Jazz). They produced a clear round and solid flying changes.
