KWPN dressage stallions Painted Black, OO Seven, Florencio and Sir Sinclair received the "Keur" status at the 2015 KWPN Stallion Licensing in 's Hertogenbosch on Saturday 7 February 2015. It is worth noting that all four Keur stallions are sired by German bred stallions.
The earliest a stallion can receive KWPN "Keur" status is when his first crop of foals has turned seven years of age. The offspring has to stand out amongst its peers when it comes to their achievements in sport as well as with their conformation.
OO Seven (by Rubinstein x Doruto x Amor) could not be present for the occasion as he is currently standing at stud in Australia. However, the Spanish owned WEG team horse Painted Black (by Gribaldi x Ferro) made an appearance in the ring, led by his current rider Morgan Barbançon. The stallion was accompanied by two gorgeous mares: one was his daughter Zoraïda, ridden by Femke Beljon; the other was the OO Seven daughter Up Seven with Florentine Rootveld in the saddle. Both mares currently compete in the Small Tour.
"I was so happy when I got the phone call that he was proclaimed Keur," Barbançon told Eurodressage. "It's a real honour for us."
Wim Ernes, chair of the KWPN Stallion Licensing Committee, listed the achievements of each new keur stallion: “As a 6-year-old, Painted Black won silver with Anky van Grunsven at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden and ended third under the same rider in the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas. Morgan has been his regular rider since 2010. At the recent world championships in Caen, they were the best Spanish combination. Painted Black has three KWPN-approved sons: Bon Bravour, Ebony, and Enzo Ferrari. OO Seven is a Rubinstein I son out of a full-sister to the Olympic mare Barbria. With Imke Schellekens, he was the Pavo Cup reserve champion as a 4- and 5-year-old. He was also very successful in the sport in Australia. He has one approved son, Zuidenwind.”
The American owned Sir Sinclair (by Lord Sinclair x Flemmingh) was purchased by Mary Alice Malone of Iron Spring Farm at the KWPN Select Sale for €360,000. In his new homeland, he is a popular sire and has produced numerous attractive and successful offspring. He also has many good offspring in The Netherlands. His offspring Washington DC, who competes in the Intermediaire II under Cindy Heijligers, made an appearance in Den Bosch.
The Westfalian bred Florencio (by Florestan x Weltmeyer x Pik Bube II), owned by Team Nijhof, was present for the occasion. The handsome stallion was shown in hand. Under Hans Peter Minderhoud Florencio was the double World Young Horse Champion and competed up to international small tour level.
Wim Ernes: “Florencio's KWPN-approved son Charmeur has inherited his strong genes, as he won the Pavo Cup final in 2012 and now competes successfully in the ZZ-advanced under Madeleine Witte-Vrees.” Another Florencio I son, Borencio, won the Pavo Cup final twice. As a six-year-old, he claimed the silver medal at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden.
