The Young Horse classes at the 2015 CDI Vilamoura on 10 - 12 April 2015 saw Hugo Pereira and Fiolijn dominate the 5-year olds, while Nuno Chaves de Almeida and Sandro Plus (by San Amour out of Denina) were undefeated in the 6-year olds division.

Pereira and Fiolijn (by Jazz out of Tjalijn, by Democraat) won both the preliminary and final tests with 76,200% and 81,600%.

“Fiolijn was bred at Coudelaria Regeos and is owned by Lisbon based Dutchman Hendrik Roelofsen,” says the mare's rider Hugo.  “She has great movement and talent with a strong and sensitive character.”

Hugo says however, that the mare is very new to competition and so is still very keen to see the new things around her. Her Jazz genes certainly don't make the challenge any easier.

“It is not always easy to control her personality, but she never loses her quality and talent," he added. "The plan for the mare is to set her up for an international dressage career and take an embryo from her this year. In May we will head to Madrid and after that we will go to Holland to prepare the training and competitions to ride at the World Championships in Verden."

Nuna Chaves de Almeida and the 6-year old Sandro Plus won both tests with 69,451%, and 74,200%. Sandro is bred and owned by Vasco Francisco Freire. His rider Nuno says the horse has a strong personality and is very self confident.

“He loves to show off and I think he has great potential,” Nuno told Eurodressage. “Vilamoura was our first international competition and it went really well.”

In both tests Nuno felt the horse was energetic and relaxed. He added that he really enjoyed riding him.

“He has three solid gaits and his highlight is the canter," said Chaves. "We will now compete in the Portuguese National cup at M-level and at the Young Horses championship for 6-year olds,” Nuno added.
