German FEI Rider Dr. Cornelia Herbert has passed away on 9 June 2015, losing her battle against cancer. She was 55 years old.
The 1960 born amateur rider from Pliening, near Munich, Germany, was a medical doctor by profession.
Herbert trained numerous horses up to S and Grand Prix level and was a routinier at the Bundeschampionate in Warendorf, where she presented several young horses in the Finals (e.g. Wait and See, Ferryboy). She was one of Uwe Schwanz' most successful students the past ten years.
Herbert began competing in 1986 aboard Adria (by Absatz x Gouverneur x Almhueter II) and an incountable number of youngsters followed in the 1990s with for instance Concorde, Daffilou, Roi Renoir, Fenena, Ramazotti, Flims, Ribanna, Malorca, Dupont, Candillo, Seegroll, Pinocio, Adonis, Romio, Daylight Dancer, Sandyland, Dorina St, etc.
Herbert's first claim to fame was aboard the Holsteiner mare Usambara (by Fleming x Calypso x Colt), bred by Paul Kitzmann, which she first took to S level. The pair dominated the small tour circuit in Bavaria and she earned her Golden Rider's Badge.
Her last successes in the show ring were achieved on the Hanoverian bred San Balou (by Sandro Hit x Ordos xx x Woermann), with whom she finished 13th in the 2012 Louisdor Cup final for Developing Grand Prix horses and competed at national Grand Prix level from 2012 till 2014.
Herbert did her last competition at Gut Aichet on 17 October 2014. She finished fourth in the Intermediaire II on San Balou.
