Italian junior rider Filippo Di Marco got severely injured in a motorbike accident at his home on Tuesday 29 September 2015. He will be out of action for at least six to eight months.

Di Marco crashed his dirtbike into a gate, when the brakes failed. He was immediately transported to the hospital where they diagnosed him a compound fracture of his right femur. It was broken in three places.

Filippo was operated on immediately to stabilize and fix the femur. He will require two further operations in the future and at the moment has to stay in the hospital for 45 days. It will take six to eight months for him to be back in the saddle.

Di Marco is the son of Italian FEI rider Nausicaa Maroni and Roberto di Marco and trains at their own Il Cavallino Riding Centre in Rosate near Milan, Italy. He recently finished fifth at the 2015 Italian Junior Riders Championships in Arezzo, Italy, aboard Anava Welt.

Filippo is in good spirits and very hopeful of the future. He aims to make a speedy recovery so that he qualify his new horse, 10-year old Dutch warmblood Alfons (by Jazz x Rossini) which arrived in his stable three weeks ago, for the 2016 European Junior/Young Riders Championships in Madrid next summer.
