French WEG and European Championship team horse Robinson de la Font has passed away following a severe colic attack. The Lusitano was euthanized last night in Toulouse, France.
The 11-year old Lusitano stallion Robinson de la Font was bred and owned by Sylvain Massa and was by Maestro out of Toutinegra (by Opus 72).
Under French Grand Prix rider Arnaud Serre the bay stallion made his international show debut at small tour level at the 2012 CDI Vidauban. He moved up to Grand Prix level four months later and became a member of the French team at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen, France, where he finished 27th in the Grand Prix Special. He also represented France at the 2015 European Championships and placed 50th in the Grand Prix. The pair won silver at the 2015 French Championships. They competed at their last show, the 2015 CDI Madrid in November where they were fourth in the Grand Prix and Freestyle.
On 17 December 2015 Robinson de la Font was operated one after a severe colic attack. The horse was recovering from surgery and expected to return to training this month. In the afternoon of Thursday 17 March Robinson again developed a severe colic attack and could not be saved.
"Dr. Desmaizières did everything he could to save him but it was in vain," said Serre. "Robinson's intestines were necrotic and there was no chance of saving him. A fighter with a golden heart has now left us. He was an extraordinary horse, a friend gifted with generosity, courage and kindness beyond comparison."
