The 18-year old Dutch junior rider Diana van de Bovenkamp has been discharged from the hospital, spending a total of eight days there after getting kicked in the face by a horse during a lunging session.
Van de Bovenkamp sustained multiple fractures to her face, including her nose, cheekbone and lower jaw. Her upper jaw has been shattered. She was immediately operated on and was kept on intubation for several days until the swelling in her throat went down.
Van den Bovenkamp has now left the University Clinic of Utrecht and will continue a very long recovery at home.
"I just had the final check ups and got green light to go home," said Van de Bovenkamp. "I will have to rehabilitate for a long time and there will be multiple operations, but for now I'm happy to go home."
