Dr. Karl-Josef Boening Dies in Car Accident

The 68-year old German veterinarian Dr. Karl Josef Boening has tragically died in a car accident near Ladbergen, Germany, on Wednesday 23 November 2016.

Boening drove his car into another while crossing a street. The 48-year old driver and the three passengers in the other car came out of the accident with some minor injuries  Dr. Boening, however, had to be freed from his car by the fire brigade. He died in the Osnabruck hospital a bit later.

Together with Dr. Friedrich Christoph von Saldern Dr. Karl Josef Boening founded the Animal and Equine Clinic in Telgte, Germany, in 1983. Boening was a renowned equine surgeon. Under his supervision Telgte grew from a clinic with two stables and one operation room, to an enterprise with eight stables for 75 horses and an operation room that is open 365 days a year.

Dr. Boening was also a frequent, keynote speaker at the Liebenberger Pferdeforum. His last speech was about the relevance of X-ray classes nowadays. His son Christopher, who is a lawyer in Dr. Michael Klimke's firm, also spoke there on the legal side of purchasing a horse.

He leaves behind his wife Ilka, a Grand Prix dressage rider, and two children.
