As breeder of the world number one ranked stallion Desperados, Herbert Schütt was honoured by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) as Best Dressage Horse Breeder of the Year 2016.

The WBFSH honoured the breeders of all three number one ranked horses on the 2016 WBFSH Ranking for dressage, show jumping and eventing in a special award ceremony held at the 2016 CHI Geneva on Sunday 11 December 2016.

For dressage, the 15-year old Hanoverian stallion Desperados (by De Niro x Wolkenstein II) topped the ranking.

Desperados is bred by Herbert Schütt and his granddaughter Antonia Schütt attended the WBFSH award ceremony in Geneva, where she received a Rolex watch from Princess Benedicte of Denmark and WBFSH chair Jan Pedersen.

Herbert's son Claus Schütt explains the stallion's heritage: “The family of Desperados FRH has been in my family for almost 100 years. I have a photo of Lacilla (Lorenz) on a wall in my home, she was born in 1923. The horses from this line were used to work on the farm, but in 1964 my father stopped with using them as work horses and kept them for breeding riding horses. I always started the horses and then they were sold, or we kept the better ones for breeding. The the mares had to do a mare performance test and then they continued their career as a broodmare. The horses have an amazing character from this line, they are not dull, are very clever and are honest. You really have to treat them with respect otherwise you have a problem. Desperados was just recently honored as Hanoverian of the year 2016 so Dr. Schade invited us to bring his full sister as well. She had a super test this year and although she is now retired from riding, she will continue her career as broodmare. You have to understand that we don’t want too much publicity because we only breed with two or sometimes three mares and we also breed jumping horses from this line. The grandmother of Desperados, Maskottchen (Matcho xx - Platine x Pik König, bred by Herbert Schütt) was a good all-round mare. After almost 100 years of breeding with this line we have achieved something that is hard to improve.”
