Korean Olympian Dong Seon Kim was arrested for assaulting two bar employees while under the influence of alcohol on Thursday 5 January 2017.
The 27-year olds Dong Seon Kim is the youngest of three sons of Kim Seung-youn, the chairman of Hanwha, one of South Korea's biggest multinationals. This is the second arrest in two weeks times of a South Korean millionaire, who competes internationally in dressage.
Korea Times reported that Kim allegedly assaulted employees of a bar in southern Seoul in the early hours of Thursday 5 January 2017. He also tore off the seat of a police car that was carrying him to the Gangnam police station for interrogation. He was also accused of rowdy behaviour during the police interrogation. Charges facing Kim include violence, obstruction of business and destruction of public assets, according to the police.
Back in 2007, the Hanwha boss's second son, Kim Dong-won, got a record of getting involved in a bar fight, which led to a gang-like revenge attack on his attackers, led by his father. The chaebol tycoon received a suspended jail term for the incident. Crimes involving wealthy owners of major corporations are often subject to intense public criticism in South Korea.
Yoora Chung, the daughter of the impeached President Park's confidente Soon Sil Choi, was arrested in Denmark on 2 January 2017 for illegally staying in the country and obstructing the investigation carried into the affairs of her mother in connection to Park. Park and Choi collaborated on several sport and cultural foundations to which major corporations (incl. Samsung) donated money, of which parts ended up being spent on the private dressage career of Chung in Europe.
