Two of Holland's leading A-team dressage horses have been withdrawn from competing at the final Western European League World Cup qualifier in The Netherlands, the 2017 CDI-W 's Hertogenbosch. Neither Apache nor Arlando will be appearing in Den Bosch.
Scholtens' 12-year old Dutch warmblood stallion Apache (by UB40 x Krack C) is not fit to compete.
"Apache is not entirely fit. Fortunately it's nothing serious but in agreement with the vet I decided not to have him do such a heavy test," Scholtens told Horses.nl. "I'm doing some light riding with him at home to keep him in work. Of course it's a bit disappointing that I can't compete but his health is priority and I'd rather focus on the outdoor season during which we'll try to qualify for the European Championships."
Today the Dutch equestrian federation confirmed the withdrawal of Diederik van Silfhout and his Olympic mount Arlando, a 12-year old Dutch warmblood stallion by Paddox x Mytens xx. This is the second withdrawal of Arlando from a World Cup qualifier. Arlando also missed the CDI-W Amsterdam in January.
"Arlando felt a bit dull and had a temperature," Van Silfhout explained. "Nothing serious it seems, but it prevents an optimal prepration for Indoor Brabant. That's why we decided to withdraw."
Scholtens' place has been taken by Jeannette Haazen on the Belgian owned Dabanos d'O4 (by Abanos). Hans Peter Minderhoud will be premiering a new freestyle with Flirt, Edward Gal is riding Voice and Madeleine Witte-Vrees will show Wynton instead of her A-team ride Cennin.
