The 5-year old First Step Valentin, the 6-year old Go on Top MP, and the 7-year old Favian WB became the winners of the third qualifier for Belgian horses for the 2017 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo. The third leg of the Belgian WCYH selection process was held at the national show in Heist-op-den-Berg on 29 April 2017.
In the 5-year old division Larissa Pauluis is reigning supreme on her Westfalian licensed stallion First Step Valentin (by Vitalis x Fidermark). After placing sixth in the first trial and winning the second, the pair now also took highest honour in the third qualification show with a score of 75.542 points. Katrien Verreet again took second place on the Belgian warmblood mare Miss Furstenball (by Furstenball x Ritmeister); this time with a score of 73.583 points. Rob van Puijenbroek and his home bred Dutch warmblood registered and BWP licensed stallion Heros Begijnhoeve (by Vivaldi x Havidoff) were third with 72.240 points.
Former Belgian young rider team member Brecht d'Hoore dominated the 6-year old division on the KWPN stallion Go on Top MP (by Danone I x Welt Hit II, owned by Brecht's fiancee, the Dutch Dominique van der Horst, with whom he runs Wolfshoeve Stable in The Netherlands.The now 27-year old Brecht scored 73.542 points for the victory. The Dutch Tommie Visser steered his husband Rob van Puijenbroek's KWPN bred Genesis (by Jazz x Silvano) to a second place with 70.958 points. Flore de Winne and her German bred Basali (by Belissimo M x Weltmeyer) slotted in third with 70.708 points.
Brecht d'Hoore continued his conquest in Heist-op-den-Berg also winning the 7-year old division on the Dutch warmblood bred Favian WH, who was originally named Feloek la Haya (by Zizi Top x Roman Nature). The combination scored a winning 75.828 points and edged out Julie Dossin and her 2015 World Championship ride First Lady (by Sir Donnerhall I x Johnson). They scored 74.250 points. The winners of the first and second qualifier, Larissa Pauluis and the German bred stalliob Barroso (by Bordeaux x Saros xx), were now third with 73,638 points.
