The 5-year old First Step Valentin, the 6-year old Laura Ashley, and the 7-year old Favian WH became the winners of the sixth and penultimate Belgian selection trial for the 2017 World Championships for young dressage horses in Ermelo, The Netherlands in 3 - 6 August 2017. The sixth qualifier was held in Meerdonk on 10 June 2017.
In the 5-year old division Larissa Pauluis proved herself to be unbeatable on the Westfalian bred and SBS licensed stallion First Step Valentin (by Vitalis x Fidermark). The combination has won five consecutive qualifiers in a row and is now absolutely sure of team selection. In Meerdonk the pair scored a winning 75.708 points. Philippe Jorissen and his Belgian warmblood mare Miss Dior van den Bruel (by Special Agent Amour x Florestan) landed second place with 74.250 points and edged out Katrien Verreet on the Belgian warmblood mare Miss Furstenball (by Furstenball x Ritmeister) with 73.667 points.
After winning the fifth qualifier in Schilde, Gert Helsen and the Belgian warmblood mare Laura Ashley (by Bon Bravour x Sandro Hit) also bagged the victory in the 6-year old division in Meerdonk with 73,375 points. Brecht d'Hoore on Dominique van der Horst's KWPN stallion Go on Top MP (by Danone I x Welt Hit II) were the runners-up with 71,042 points, followed by Charlotte Vets on Fahrenheit Biolley (by Galliani Biolley x Converter) with 70,208 points.
In the 7-year old division Brecht D'Hoore and the Korean owned Dutch warmblood Favian WH (by Zizi Top x Roman Nature) scored their third win in the series with a 78.505% score in Meerdonk. Larissa Pauluis and the licensed stallion Barroso (by Bordeaux x Saros xx) were second with 77.120%, while Tom Franckx and the German bred stallion Showdancer (by Stedinger x Donnerhall) slotted in third with 73,179%
The final selection trial for Belgian WCYH participation will be held in Cheratte on 25 June 2017 before the official team is announced.
