German Grand Prix rider Benjamin Werndl had to withdraw from competing at the 2017 CDI Munich Indoors after he fractured his ankle while loading the horses at his yard in Aubenhausen, Germany on 9 November 2017.
Werndl rolled his ankle when he stepped off a stool as he tried to open a window of the lorry. He still drove the lorry to the show grounds in Munich but by then his foot had become too painful.
"I tried to ride but it was not possible," Benjamin told Eurodressage. "I then drove to the doctor and he said it's broken."
Werndl is now in a walker cast and will not be able to ride for at least four to five weeks.
