Gareth Hughes' first international competition horse, Aspen Grove Duvie, has passed away. He was 17 years old.
Duvie was an Oldenburg gelding by Ducello out of Wenke (by Werther).
He was bred by Uwe and Eva-Maria Pape and was owned by Ann Newton in partnership with Hughes.
Hughes took Duvie from young horse level up to international Grand Prix level level. The pair competed at CDI's at small tour level from 2006 till 2010. In 2012 the gelding made his international GP debut in Vidauban. It was his last and only international at top level.
"Duvie was one of the most talented horses I have ever ridden," said Hughes. "Due to health issues he never fulfilled his potential. He has been living a happy retirement for the last 4 years with Ann. He will he sorely missed but never forgotten."
