Canadian Grand Prix rider Diane Creech has lost her Grand Prix horse Diana C.
Bred by Charlotte Grönborg and owned by American Louise Leatherdale, she was by Damsey out of Belinda (by Brentano II).
She was scouted by Louise's late husband Doug at the prestigious 2010 Herwart von der Decken Mare Show in Germany, where she was named co-champion dressage mare as a 3-year-old. She was then owned by Danish Christa Morck.
Under Canadian Diane Creech the aptly named Diana C made her international show debut at small tour level in Wellington, Florida in January 2015. By the end of the year she moved up to medium tour level. In 2916 they worked on the transition to Grand Prix level and in 2017 they did their first international Grand Prix at the CDI Hartpury in the U.K.
In 2018 the mare competed at five internationals in the U.S.A. and Canada. They recorded a personal best score of 70.809% in the Grand Prix Special at the 2018 CDI Cedar Valley. They were named the traveling reserves for the Canadian Team at the 2018 World Equestrian Games,
Creech last competed her at three CDI's in Wellington between January and March 2019, alongside her other Grand Prix horse Chrevi's Christo.
"Her kindness, generosity and great sense of humor were a joy to have in the barn. Diana C was a very special mare who was so eager to do the right thing," said Louise Leatherdale. "It was wonderful having a daughter of our stallion Damsey FRH competing at the upper-levels of the sport and our entire team is heartbroken by the loss of such an affectionate mare who had an immense amount of potential."
The 12-year old Hanoverian mare suffered from a tragic bout of laminitis and was put down on 29 May 2019.
"We originally had very high hopes that Diana C was recovering after a foundering incident, but her health and comfort rapidly went down hill and we had to make the devastating decision to not allow her to suffer any longer," Leatherdale said.
