A bug in the FEI World Dressage Riders List has led to incorrect ranking positions at the release of the new ranking which includes all results up till 31 December 2019.
WDRL Bugged
For some reason the ranking featured only used 6 results with some riders to determine their WDRL placings, instead of the usual 8. Certain competition results were taken into account for some riders but not for others.
While the FEI stated it was just "display" issue, it fixed the matter straight away this morning, 7 January 2020, and the updated WDRL clearly revealed that there was indeed a bug in the system.
The matter has been corrected, but it has led to changes in positions in the ranking for certain riders.
Riders do best to recheck their placing now as many have already reported on their ranking on social media, while this has changed now.
The bug has had no effect on the Olympic Ranking List.
Ups and Downs
Just a random grab reveals that Isabell Werth and Don Johnson moved from 21st place to an updated 24th position (going from 2313 WDRL points to 2251)
Due to the recalculation Stefanie Schatz-Weihermuller and C'est La Vie landed into the top 100 in 100th place, instead of 108.
Portuguese shooting star Joao Torrao dropped out of the top 50 from 49th place to a corrected 58th place.
Dutch Emmelie Scholtens was initially listed as 13th at the start of the year but has now been recalculated to a 19th spot.
Carl Hester and Hawtins Delicato were posted at 17th place but now rank 22nd.
Werth Remains Number One and Two
Werth is also the number two in the world with 2817 points on Weihegold. With Emilio she dropped from 8th to a recalculated 10th place.
A big leap in the ranking came from Charlotte Dujardin on Mount St. John Freestyle, whose place has been recalculated to 6th position instead of 4th, with 2594 points. Their London CDI-W victory pushed them from 48th place to 6th.
America's number one pair, Laura Graves and Verdades, dropped to 7th place with 2550 points. They competed at only three CDI's in Wellington and the World Cup Finals in Gothenburg in April 2019, their last competition.
