German professional dressage rider Tobias Nabben had to say goodbye to his career making dressage horse, Peppo.

Peppo was a 19-year old Oldenburg by Pik Noir out of Noble Princess (by Noble Roi xx x Furioso II x Admiral I). He was bred by Kurt Kruse.

Barbara and Tobias

Owned by Tobias' mom Barbara Nabben, the bay Peppo has been in the family at Dressage Stable Zur Linde in Bottrop-Birchellen since he was a youngster. The facility is located next to the Warner Brother's Movie theme park.

Tobias and the 3-year old Peppo made their show debut in 2004 in the riding horse tests, their first show in Hünxe, right near Voerde, where Tobias was doing his Bereiter training at Johan Hinnemann's Krusterhof.

Barbara and Tobias trained and competed the horse together at the start. In 2006 Tobias rode him at the Bundeschampionate in Warendorf, and were Barbara last showed him in 2007 and in 2008 Sophie Stanneck briefly took place in the saddle.

Four Profi Medals

In 2010 Tobias and Peppo moved up to S-level and in 2012 they moved to Grand Prix level.

The pair became serial medalists at the German Championships for Professional Dressage Riders in Unna-Massen. The pair collected four of those medals at these Championships over the years (silver in 2015, bronze in 2016, silver in 2017, silver in 2018).

Peppo's last competition start was the K+K Cup in Munster in January 2019 at age 18. In Peppo's career no less than 240 competition starts are recorded in the German NF database! They never competed internationally.

Paddock Accident

The horse was retired from sport, but unfortunately could not enjoy a long retirement. He had to be euthanized after sustaining a severe tendon injury in the paddock.

"He was a loyal and reliable partner, which took me through the young horse tests to Grand Prix Special," Nabben stated. "Peppo was not only a heart horse, but also a family project. Even though he will no longer greet us daily from his box, we will keep him in our memory with gratitude."
