Jorinde Verwimp's internationally competed junior riders' horse Cardento has been sold to China.

Cardento is a 14-year old Dutch warmblood gelding by Painted Black out of Goser (by Zebulon). He is bred by W. Lazereoms and owned by Jorinde Verwimp.

"A Project"

The black gelding arrived in Verwimp's stable in the autumn of 2016. Jorinde had spotted the horse on an online sales site and purchased the M-level trained horse from Dutch Maaike Opheij as a "project".

Verwimp trained the black gelding up to schooling Grand Prix level. She won the 2018 Belgian Championships at M-level and moved him up to small tour level. She had planned on starting him in the medium tour, but all competitions were cancelled due to corona.

In 2020 Cardento was competed by two of Jorinde's junior rider students at the few international dressage shows that were held. In February 2020, Britt Gellens rode him at the CDI Lier, while in August 2020 Emma Driessen competed him at the CDI Sint-Truiden and placed sixth in the junior individual test with 66?422%.

"It was a great journey with him which started 4.5 years ago when he came to our stable as a 'project'," said Verwimp. "He only knew walk, trot, canter. We were ready to start at medium tour level with the intention to start Grand Prix coming summer, but unfortunately couldn't make the official debut due to corona."

Sold to China

Verwimp has now sold Cardento to Chinese rider Wen Ming, who aims to compete Cardento at small tour level in the China Games. In 2022, China will also be hosting the  Asian Games in Hangzhou.

"The hard part of working with horses is sometimes you have to make the heartbreaking decision to let them go," Verwimp stated about the sale of Cardento to China. "On one side it's sad that we couldn't end our time together with an official Grand Prix start, but he found a great place in China now where i'm sure they'll enjoy him as much as I did the past years."
