Russian Grand Prix rider Tatiana Dorofeeva had to say goodbye to her former top horse Khorovod. The 21-year old Hanoverian gelding was euthanised following a stable accident.
Khorovod was Hanoverian registered, but Russian bred. He was sired by Khodar and out of Delba (by Dekret).
Dorofeeva and Khorovod
First owned by Viktor Repkin, the bay gelding made his international Grand Prix debut in 2010 under Tatiana Dorofeeva. They competed at the CDI Moscow at Merkulova's New Century stable in July 2010 for their first CDI GP test.
In 2011 they competed in Zhashkiv, Stadl Paura, Nizhniy Novgorod and St. Petersburg to be selected on the Russian team for the 2011 European Dressage Championships in Rotterdam, where they were 55th with 63.450% in the Grand Prix.
The pair competed through 2015 and had their highlight year in 2013 when they represented Russia at the 2013 World Cup Finals in Gothenburg (17th with 63.393% in the Kur) and at the 2013 European Dressage Championships in Herning, where they were 60th with 62.234% in the Grand Prix.
Dereveyashkina and Khorovod
In 2015 owner and Dorofeeva's long-time sponsor Nataliya Bronnikova sold Khorovod to Russian Elizaveta Derevyashkina as a schoolmaster.
The new duo made its international show debut three years later in 2018 at the CDI-W Moscow. They competed at two more internationals, the 2019 CDI Moscow at Maxima Park and the 2019 CDI in Minsk.
He was retired from sport in March 2020 at the age of 20.
Untimely Passing
Dressagestars.ru announced the news of the untimely passing of Khorovod.
"Not so long ago, during a morning walk, he suffered a severe fracture of his hind leg, and recovery was not possible," Dressagestars.ru reported. "The difficult decision was made to euthanize."
Owner Derevyashkina said, "he was a horse with a huge heart, sometimes it seemed to me that he was not a horse at all, but a man. Our family has lost a true friend."
