The  Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre in Jerez de la Frontera is holding a "clearance sale" of seven of its older horses, including the now 24-year old internationally competed Grand prix horse Fogonero IX.

Lily Forado reported the news that Fogonero will be auctioned on 23 February 2022 at 12:00 noon.

Clearance Sale of Six

Six horses are included in the collection; the youngest horses are 14-year olds, born in 2008, the oldest are 24 and 23 years old (born 1998 and 1999).

The asking price for the horses is between 1,000 and 4,000 euro.  The complete collection can be viewed here.

Fogonero IX

The most well known horse in the collection is the oldest one, the 24-year old PRE bred Fogonero IX who was competed at international Grand Prix level by Jose Maria Sanchez Cobos.  The bay made his competition debut in 2008 and won bronze at the 2008 Spanish Championships. Between 2008 and 2010 he showed at CDi's in Vejer, Oviedo, Saumur, Pompadour, Aachen, Hickstead and Cappeln.

In 2012 the Bay competed one year under Ignacio Rambla who made an effort to return to the Spanish team with the London Olympics in sight. They showed in Vejer, Rotterdam and Aachen, and had to go head-to-head against Carmen Naesgaard (Ciowa) and Jose Daniel Martin Dockx (Grandioso) for the team reserve spot. In the end Grandioso got the spot, and ended up on the team as Beatriz Ferrer-Salat and Delgado dropped out.

In 2014 Fogonero made an international come back with Sanchez Cobos in Barcelona and also appeared at the CDI Madrid. That was the last international for the horse. After that Fogonero continued as an exhibition horse at the Real Escuela.

Retired Sport Horses Auctioned

Another former competition horse in the collection is the 18-year old Tabique (by Flamenco XX x Querido IV), who in 2013 competed under Laura Belen Bautista at national events in Spain after which he was turned into an exhibition horse.

In 2018 a similar auction was held in Jerez with a collection of 11 horses, including Jose Antonio Garcia Mena's multiple Spanish team horse Norte Lovera, who was.a sensation at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen. The owner wanted to cash in on the 18-year old retired stallion post-show career. On social media the upcoming sale caused an outrage and a GoFundMe campaign was started by fans of Norte but only raised 1,600 euro. At the auction the bidding went up to 100,000 euro but the reserve price of 120,000 wasn't met so Norte did not sell.
