German Under 25 rider Jeannine Pelzer has taken over the ride on Dorothee Schneider's 2017 German dressage team horse Sammy Davis Jr.

Sammy Davis Jr is a 16-year old Bavarian gelding by San Remo x Wenckstern x Lanthan x Grandioso). He is bred by Hans Volkert.

Owned by Matthias and Conny Herbert, the gelding made his show debut as a 4-year old under Conny in 2010. She took him to S-level and rode him until 2013. In 2016 Dorothee Schneider campaigned him at Grand Prix level.

With Schneider, he won the the 2016 Louisdor Cup Finals for German Developing Grand Prix Horses, he was a member of the gold medal winning German team at the 2017 European Dressage Championships in Gothenburg and 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon. He was fifth at the 2018 World Cup Finals in Paris.

Over the years Sammy Davis Jr has produced consistent Grand Prix scores of around 75%.  He is highly decorated in various championships for Germany, CDI competitions, CDIO Nations Cups, and World Cup qualifiers.

Sammy Davis Jr has now moved on as a Grand Prix schoolmaster for Jeannine Pelzer, a German U25 rider who has been competing at international U25 level with Don Ravel (by Don Romantic x Pik Bube).

"Sammy now has a new task and I wish Jeannine all the best with this incredible horse," said Dorothee Schneider who was forced to stay home from the CDI Doha this week due to a positive Covid test. "I'm convinced he'll have it good, cantering in the fields and paddocks and to be in sport together."
