The KWPN society will be hosting its first licensing for KWPN x Iberian cross breds on 3 August 2022 at the KNHS center in Ermelo, The Netherlands.
Since a few years, KWPN allowed Iberian cross breds to be registered in their breed society if the sire is KWPN bred and licensed and the dam a Lusitano or PRE purebred mare.
"The offspring can be submitted to the studbook and be considered for predicates, if they fulfil the requirements of studbook submission," the KWPN posted. "By breeding horses from this KWPN x Lusitano/PRE cross, we try to combine the strong qualities of both breeders for dressage horse breeding. Both Lusitanos and PRE's are known for their predisposition for collection and big talent for piaffe and passage."
Foals from this cross can now be registered in the B-book and will receive a KWPN registration form and passport. These horses will be allowed to compete in the young horse circuit, Pavo Cup and be considered for Dutch team selection for the World Championships. They will be considered for predicates and register B stallions from this cross will be allowed to participate in a licensing.
The first licensing of stallions on 3 August will be open to these cross breds, as well as the combination Lusitano/PRE stallion x KWPN mare to get an idea of the inheritance potential of these crosses.
