American Grand Prix rider and sponsor Akiko Yamazaki once again turned to German horse dealer Jochen Arl to find a new member for her equine family and he sourced Luuk H in Sweden.
Luuk H is an 8-year old Dutch warmblood by Gunner KS out of Cintia (by Vivaldi x Metall). He is bred by .W . Raaijmakers in The Netherlands.
From Den Bosch to Sweden
Luuk H already stood out from the start, excelling at the 2016 KWPN foal inspection with the highest scores achieved by a Gunner KS offspring.
The owners' group Leonie Bos - Peter Wetzelaer- Adriaan Van de Goor bought him as a foal and presented Luuk H as a rising 3-year old at the 2019 KWPN stallion licensing in 's Hertogenbosch in the second phase. He was not approved for breeding and continued his career as a sport horse.
As a 4-year old Luuk was first competed in Dutch young horse classes by co-owner Peter Wetzelaer before selling to Jan Brink's Tullstorp Dressage Stable in Sweden later on in 2020.
Jessie Johansson
The gelded Luuk has been produced to FEI level by assistant Jessie Johansson under the watchful eyes of Brink.
Johansson, who rode for Therese Nilshagen and at Hof Kasselmann as well as in the U.S.A. before settling in at Brink's, was allocated the ride on the elegant gelding. She first showed Luuk in October 2022 and immediately rode him to victory. In 2023 they focused on the national 7-year old classes with three wins to their tally and an impressive second place at the Falsterbo Horse Show in the 7-year old division.
This year Luuk has been competing at Prix St Georges level, collecting a further two trophies, while being produced to Grand Prix level.
San Francisco Bound
Arl matched the beautiful chestnut to his long-time client Akiko Yamazaki, who will be bringing him to Four Winds Farm near San Francisco, U.S.A.
The horse will remain at Brink's until after the 2024 Olympic Games, as Akiko is focusing on supporting Steffen Peters on her horse Suppenkasper (by Spielberg x Krack C) at their second, consecutive Olympics. As America's strongest scoring duo of the moment, Steffen and Suppenkasper by-passed the second U.S. team qualifier and were fast tracked on the U.S. Olympic team for Paris.
In August Jessie will accompany Luuk H to the U.S.A. and help him settle in at Akiko's horse haven.
