The Swedish equestrian federation announced a major change in its para dressage team ahead of the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.

Team anchor Lena Malmström and Fabulous Fidelie have dropped out. They will be replaced by the first reserve, Anita Johnsson and Currant LA?

At the end of last week Malmström's horse Fabulous Fidelie underwent a veterinary examination and it was concluded that the horse will not be able to compete in the Paralympics.

"Lena felt that Fidelie was not moving entirely smoothly, which was confirmed during the subsequent veterinary examination. She now has a period of rehab and therefore the Paralympics come too quickly. The well-being of the horses always comes first and the most important thing is that Fidelie feels good at home in her paddock. She will be back in training shortly," said Swedish  para national team's vet Tobias Wrangberg.

"I had my sights set on a medal, we had the potential and I think we would have been among the top," said Lena. "But there is no doubt in the decision. Fidelie should feel good and hopefully we will have the opportunity for more major championships in the future. At the same time, I can be happy for Anita, who missed the Paralympics in Tokyo for the same reason."
