Hannah Moody has been formally elected as British Dressage's Youth Director following this year’s BD Director elections.
In line with the British Dressage Articles of Association, the position of BD Youth Director was put forward to the membership for election this year. After a formal review of applications by the Nominations Committee, Hannah Moody was the sole candidate put forward to the membership vote for the role, with an electronic ballot carried out independently by Mi-Voice.
Succeeding Claire Moir
Hannah received 1,515 votes (98.2% of those cast) and has been duly elected as BD Youth Director. The appointment will formally take effect from the date of the 2024 Annual General Meeting, on Thursday 24 October 2024, with Hannah serving an initial four-year term until 2028.
Hannah has been serving as Interim BD Youth Director since October 2023, when the position became vacant after the former post-holder Claire Moir was appointed to the BEF Board.
"Development of Life Skills and Friendships"
Speaking after her appointment, Hannah commented: “I’m delighted to continue from my interim role and take up the reins as BD Youth Director for a full term. I look forward to working with the Youth committee, BD head office staff and those in the BD regions to continue the good work going on behind the scenes to improve opportunities for youth riders.
“Youth development is not just about the time spent in the arena, it’s about the role the sport plays in the development of life skills and friendships, and I hope I can continue to drive our successes in creating a supportive, enjoyable community where all young people can thrive.”
Hannah Moody
Hannah holds her UKCC Level 3, is a British Dressage Coach Educator and UKCC Assessor.
Hannah started riding in Brazil when she was 5 years old. Her interest in dressage was sparked by Sir Fred, her 15hh Highland x Thoroughbred. Hannah and Sir Fred had many successes up to and during her time at university in London. Hannah has a first class degree in Fine Art and is the (modest) artist behind the huge canvases in the indoor school at Moody Dressage.
While still at university, Hannah coached the Rockwood Pony Club dressage group (the money she earned from the lessons was subsequently all spent on the train fare to/from London). Their senior team went on to Pony Club Championships 5 times with guidance from Hannah.
Hannah’s popularity grew quickly as a coach in the area and despite the years invested in her degree, she decided to be a pennyless horse person rather than a pennyless artist.
Hannah has competed at National Championships 16 times on 7 different horses. Competing at every level from Novice to Grand Prix, Hannah has been placed in the top 3 on four occasions at National Championships and won the Medium Elite with Kwadraat in 1999.
She is sister to Becky Moody, a 2024 British Olympic team medalist. Hannah is married to Robin Herbert and they have a daughter, Eva.
