The first CDI-W Mexico concluded with resounding success, showcasing not only a high level of competition but also an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance. Held at the beautiful St. Vincent venue, this event transformed dressage into a celebration of Mexican culture and spirit, complete with vibrant marigold decorations, traditional “catrinas,” and an ambiance inspired by the Day of the Dead.
The entire event was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of Pamela Franco and her family, whose dedication and efforts ensured a memorable experience for all.
Outstanding Sporting Achievements
On the competitive side, the event brought together world-class athletes who delivered remarkable performances. .
In the prestigious World Cup Qualifier, Spanish rider Borja Carrascosa claimed first place with a brilliant performance on the 11-year old Westfalian gelding Sir Hubert NRW (by Sir Heinrich x Florestan), securing his position at the top.
American rider Kevin Kohmann followed closely in second place on the 15-year old Hanoverian Dünensee (by Dancier x Davignon), with Devon Kane from the USA taking third on the 12-year old Westfalian Vamos (by Vivaldi x Insterburg). These athletes’ dedication and skill set a high standard, marking a memorable chapter in the journey to the World Cup.
Brotherhood and Camaraderie at the “Taco Night” Welcome Event
The heart of this CDIW was the sense of unity and camaraderie that permeated every moment, beginning with the “Taco Night” welcome event hosted by Rancho La Roca.
Judges, secretaries, stewards, veterinarians, riders, and participants from the IDOC courses gathered to share an evening filled with laughter and connection. This gathering set the tone for the event, fostering a warm sense of community and mutual respect that continued throughout the competition.
Professional Development Supported by “Arquitectura Ecuestre”
Thanks to the invaluable support of “Arquitectura Ecuestre,” the IDOC was able to deliver three key courses to enhance the skills of officials and judges.
Lisa Gorretta and Diana Muennich led a transfer-up course for stewards, while Raphael Saleh provided two comprehensive courses for judges—a maintenance course for FEI judges and a training course for national judges. These courses not only elevated the expertise of our officials but also demonstrated the event’s commitment to fostering excellence within the equestrian community.
Cultural Spectacles with Remarkable Halftime Shows
The halftime shows added a vibrant layer of cultural celebration to the event. On Saturday, the Lerma folk dance group brought the arena to life with traditional dances, accompanied by a majestic Friesian horse on long reins that captivated the audience. The official welcome for the CDI-W champions was extraordinary, as they entered in carriages accompanied by the head judge and iconic “catrinas” provided by Pineda Covalin, the renowned Mexican fashion brand.
On Sunday, a powerful performance by a flamenco dancer alongside a charro horse created a breathtaking display of artistry and equestrian skill. Following this was the entrance of “the butterfly woman” in a carriage, leaving the audience in awe as the champions entered in their final, triumphant procession. Each performance was carefully designed to honor both the sport and the rich traditions of Mexico, making for an inspiring and memorable experience.
